On Crimes Against Parliament

My new-found chillum-yaar, a young Englishman named Matt, offered the term "victimless crime" to define the illegal deed we were so joyfully indulging in.

I pointed out that this crime is not victimless, for there is a body purporting to be injured by the act - Parliament. It is Parliament that says this is a crime - against its own majority.

Later in the day, we were joined by a young English girl who had studied political phisosophy at university and now worked at treating crack and heroin addicts. She called herself a "cannabis girl" - and believed this Holy Herb ought to be legal.

I was more interested in her political philosophy and found it surprisingly statist. And a quote from Mises just appeared to drum the point home:

The [social democrat] dictator does not aim at conditions that keep the people happy. Rather, he aims at conditions that keep him - the dictator - happy, even though the people may be miserable. The cattle rancher is also a benevolent despot.

Think about it.

Socialist democracy is dictatorship - because of "inflated legislation."

Liberty is a "private law society."

NO LEGISLATION!

  1. I was poring over the NDPS act of 1985 where I found this gem of a clause in Section 9 of it which allows:
    "(1) Subject to the provisions of Section 8, the Central Government may, by rules-

    (a) Permit and regulate-
    ...
    (vi). The manufacture, possession, transport, import inter-State, export inter-State, sale, purchase, consumption or use of psychotropic substances;

    (vii) The import into India and export from India and transhipment of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances;
    ...
    (i) Prescribe the forms and conditions of licences or permits for the manufacture, possession, transport, import interstate, export inter-State, sale, purchase, consumption or use of psychotropic substances, the authorities by which such licences or permits may be granted and the fees that may be charged therefor;

    (j) Prescribe the ports and other places at which any kind of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances may be imported into India or exported from India of transshipped; the forms and conditions of certificates, authorisations or permits, as the case may be, for such import, export or transhipment; the authorities by which such certificates, authorisations or permits may be granted and the fees that may be charged therefor."

    Section 8 and Section 8A detail the various things people cannot do with narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances or any properties that derive from activities relating to narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances. So it is that the right to procure, manufacture, use and consume any substance classified as a narcotic drug or a psychotropic substance rests with the Central Government.

    It is an absurd position to adopt for an elected government, to reserve this right to do as it pleases with substances it has anathematised for the people it governs.
